We recently conducted a half-day session on team work and collaboration with the finance team at Jindal Steel. The overall objective of this session was to help participants know each other better and bond as a team. Through myriad activities, team members were encouraged to experience the difference between competition and co-petition and are thus encouraged to work as an aligned and unified team which works cohesively to realise common goals.
The session was broken into two parts. In the first part, participants were introduced to the concept of team work and the various roles played by different people in a team. They even identified their own preferred role in a team and the strengths and values that their role and that of others brings to the team. In the second part, participants played a game on resource allocation and teams competed with each other to get maximum resources from the World Bank. The World Bank has certain rules for disbursement of funds and unless the teams collaborate, they end up in a lose-lose situation. Participants shared learnings from the game and got introduced to the idea of co-opetition and sharing resources and information to create win-win situations.
The overall experience of the workshop was very encouraging. Participants were fully engaged in the learning process and enjoyed the balanced blend of fun and learning. The game, especially, was very well received and the reflection session post the game brought about a very healthy discussion on working together as a team for the greater vision. We thoroughly enjoyed conducting the workshop and walked away ourselves with a lot of learnings and insights.
